Fire Cider

Shop NowFire cider is essentially a tincture (that is, a liquid extract) where the solvent is vinegar—in this case, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. An assortment of pungent and medicinal ingredients (fresh horseradish, garlic, onions, ginger, and chilies are all common) are steeped in the vinegar, then sealed and left alone for about a month. When the month is over, the solids are strained out, honey is added to soften the sharp edges, and it’s ready to drink.Mostly fire cider is celebrated for its antimicrobial properties, and is consumed in small sips throughout the day when one’s under the weather. But its culinary applications are ripe with potential: this tangy, spicy-sweet vinegar can be used all over the kitchen:Cocktails! Make a Fire Cider tonic: add about a tablespoon of fire cider and a squeeze of fresh orange juice to a glass of seltzer. Garnish with rosemary sprig. Having a party? Add some vodka.Salad dressing! Use my fire cider recipe in place of apple cider vinegar in your favorite vinaigrette. Note: you probably won’t need to add any additional sweetener.Tea! Add about a tablespoon of fire cider to a mug of hot water, along with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a little honey to sweeten. Finish with a bit of freshly ground black pepper.Sauces! Use fire cider in place of the red wine vinegar in sauces like chimichurri.Marinades! Perfect for fish, chicken, or tofu, and not unlike the assertive marinades used for jerk chicken.Ingredients: Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, Raw Tennessee Honey, Lemon, Horseradish, Ginger, Onion, Garlic, Turmeric, Black Peppercorns, Rosemary, Red Peppers, Lions Mane Mushrooms, Bay Leaf
Frequently Asked Questions
Who produces Fire Cider?
Fire Cider is produced by Free Hearts Farm. We saw the movie "Food Inc." in 2010 and it changed how we thought about food. And life. The following year we started a little farm in Ardmore Tennessee with a few Gelbvieh cows and some young Hampshire pigs. By 2012 we had enough livestock to start selling grass fed beef and pastured pork at the Madison City Farmers Market, where we continue to sell on Saturdays from April to November. We have learned so much since we started this adventure. In the past 13 years we have developed a broad range of farm to table foods and products for the home kitchen and garden. After several years, the beef and pork production part of our operation became a fully separate entity, YK Farm, right next door in Ardmore. Our fantastic grass fed beef and pastured pork from YK Farm is also available on the Huntsville Food and Farm Hub.
