Shop NowWe have a special VERY limited offering of heritage Meishan pork at this time. Meishan pigs are highly regarded for the exceptional quality of their meat, which stands out for its tenderness, marbling, and rich flavor. Unlike many commercial breeds bred for leanness, Meishans produce meat with a higher fat content, giving it superior juiciness and depth of taste, making it a favorite in gourmet and traditional cuisines. The lard from Meishans is especially valued for its purity and versatility, and it is often used in baking and cooking for its silky texture and flavor-enhancing properties. Their slower growth rate allows for more developed muscle fibers, contributing to their unique texture and flavor profile. This makes Meishan pork a delicacy increasingly sought by chefs, food enthusiasts, and small-scale producers focusing on premium, heritage-quality products.Meishan lard is soft, smooth and buttery. Keep it frozen; it is soft enough to handle even frozen. The superior fat for baking and frying. Frequently Asked Questions
Who produces Meishan Pork Lard?
Meishan Pork Lard is produced by Free Hearts Farm. We saw the movie "Food Inc." in 2010 and it changed how we thought about food. And life. The following year we started a little farm in Ardmore Tennessee with a few Gelbvieh cows and some young Hampshire pigs. By 2012 we had enough livestock to start selling grass fed beef and pastured pork at the Madison City Farmers Market, where we continue to sell on Saturdays from April to November. We have learned so much since we started this adventure. In the past 13 years we have developed a broad range of farm to table foods and products for the home kitchen and garden. After several years, the beef and pork production part of our operation became a fully separate entity, YK Farm, right next door in Ardmore. Our fantastic grass fed beef and pastured pork from YK Farm is also available on the Huntsville Food and Farm Hub.
